Do you have a take on the EVGA brand for motherboards? I use them for Graphics cards and power supplies. It’s interesting to note their website is kind of a mess. In fact, I wasn’t able to easily find but a single MB under the products->all motherboards link.

Thanks for any input.

Most likely the RAM does not like the board, RAM works well at 2133 and I have managed to get it stable at 2667 so probably the XMP at 3000 just won’t stabilize. I also tried 2933 the max the 2400g memory controller will handle but no joy. Worked at 3000 for over a year but I suspect age may play a role in the degrading of hardware. Not a big deal to run RAM at slower speeds if it stabilizes. I don’t see a need to max out Ram speed.

Hi John, thanks for taking the time to comment.

A couple things here, first of all, XMP is technically overclocking your RAM. It’s just a confirmed stable overclock according to the manufacturer.
Second, while it’s possible it’s driver related, I would be surprised. It’s much more likely that your RAM is not on the vendor support list of the motherboard, and there is some sort of incompatibility there on XMP profile. If you have a chance to try out a different stick of RAM from the Qualified Vendor List, I would see if you can hit XMP that way before writing off the board.
Otherwise, you could just be unlucky and the board could have a trace/capacitor that blew after a year of use. These things are rare, but do happen. In that case, a warranty is your best bet.

It’s hard to troubleshoot from a distance but I would try those steps first to isolate if it’s the board or the RAM before making any firm decisions.

Good luck!

Having random graphical issues and my Ryzen 2400g doesn’t clock up into turbo mode anymore. I stayed with the bios that supports Raven Ridge. I don’t overclock cpu only XMP ram profile. I sort of feel my issues are with the AMD drivers more then anything. Or maybe the board just doesn’t like my RAM? Why it worked fine for a year who knows? Asrock has a pretty flaky warranty so I opted not to try and RMA the board. It was a fairly cheap board but I was expecting something that would last me several years and that doesn’t seem to be the case. Honestly my first experience with a AMD project in several years has not impressed me and I probably will go back to Intel on my next project.
